The Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) has received its first two A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from Embraer under a contract finalized in 2024.
The agreement includes six aircraft in total, along with mission systems, a flight simulator, and comprehensive logistics support aimed at modernizing Uruguay’s fleet and strengthening airspace and border security operations.
Embraer President and CEO Bosco da Costa Junior highlighted that the delivery reinforces a partnership spanning more than five decades, noting that Uruguay was the company’s first international customer.
Now the sixth South American operator of the A-29—after Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Paraguay—Uruguay joins a global community of 22 air forces flying the platform. With over 600,000 flight hours logged worldwide, the aircraft is valued for its cost efficiency and ability to operate from austere runways.
In late 2025, Embraer enhanced the Super Tucano with counter-drone capabilities, integrating electro-optical/infrared sensors, laser-guided rockets, wing-mounted .50-caliber machine guns, and maintenance optimization software from ILIAS Solutions.
