The US State Department has approved a potential $70.5-million foreign military sale to support Jordan’s aircraft fleet, including maintenance, equipment, and munitions assistance. The request from Amman covers sustainment needs for F-16 and F-5 fighter jets as well as C-130 transport aircraft, expanding on an earlier $49.1-million package. S&K Aerospace has been designated as the primary contractor.
The approval was issued under an emergency determination, allowing the deal to bypass Congressional review due to rising regional tensions, particularly following Iranian drone and missile strikes targeting US-linked facilities and infrastructure in Jordan. The support package aims to maintain operational readiness for missions such as border security and crisis response while reinforcing the objectives of US Central Command in the region.
The decision comes alongside other recent US approvals, including a major defense package for the UAE featuring advanced missile systems, counter-drone capabilities, and THAAD radar, as well as air and missile defense sensors for Kuwait.
