Austal has delivered the ninth Evolved Cape-class patrol boat, ADV Cape Spencer (P225), to the Royal Australian Navy.

The vessel was constructed at Austal’s Henderson shipyard in Western Australia under a 2020 contract aimed at providing a modernized fleet for border protection, surveillance, and broader naval operations to safeguard Australia’s maritime interests.

Initially set at six vessels, the order was expanded to 10 through extensions in 2022 and 2024. Each 58-meter (190-foot) patrol boat accommodates up to 32 personnel and is outfitted with advanced electronic systems, optical sensors, automatic tracking technology, and .50-caliber machine guns.

Powered by two Caterpillar 3516C diesel engines generating 6,770 horsepower, the platform employs twin shafts and a bow thruster for maneuverability. It can achieve speeds of 26 knots (48 kilometers/30 miles per hour) and travel up to 4,000 nautical miles (7,408 kilometers/4,603 miles) without refueling.
