Czechia’s Ministry of Defense has confirmed the purchase of 18 Supacat HMT Extenda light armored vehicles for the army’s 601st Special Forces Group. The vehicles will be supplied by local defense firm LPP, with the state-owned VTÚ responsible for weapons, communications, and systems integration.

The chassis are priced at £32.6 million ($44 million), while additional systems acquisition and integration are valued at 810 million Czech koruna ($39 million). These new vehicles will replace the army’s aging Land Rover platforms.

According to the Chief of the General Staff, the acquisition represents a vital step in enhancing the mobility and operational readiness of special forces, in line with national and alliance requirements. The Supacat Extenda offers advanced mobility, payload, protection, and firepower, and can be reconfigured from a 4×4 to a 6×6 by adding or removing a third axle.

The 4×4 variant carries up to 2,100 kilograms (4,629 pounds), while the 6×6 version increases payload capacity to 3,900 kilograms (8,598 pounds). Optional mine and ballistic protection kits further improve survivability. A standard Extenda seats four personnel, while the Mk2 variant accommodates six.

With a top speed of 120 kilometers per hour (75 mph) and a range of 1,000 kilometers (621 miles), the platform is widely used by special forces in the UK, USA, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, New Zealand, and Ukraine, ensuring interoperability and logistical support across NATO partners.
