The British Army’s artillery branch has received its first batch of ground-based surveillance radar (GBSR) systems from Elbit Systems UK, following successful live-fire evaluations earlier in 2025.
This initial shipment includes 55 radar units along with supporting equipment, with the remaining deliveries expected later in the year.
The UK originally ordered 90 portable GBSR systems in 2023, with an option for an additional 40. The radars were customized to meet British Army requirements, built on an open architecture, and produced entirely across the UK and Europe.
Elbit’s GBSR provides two primary capabilities: battlefield surveillance and fall-of-shot (FoS) correction, both of which enhance situational awareness and troop protection.
For surveillance, the radar can detect, track, and classify personnel, vehicles, helicopters, and drones—offering both friendly-force monitoring and early threat detection.
Its FoS function helps mortar and artillery teams by automatically pinpointing impact locations, allowing rapid and accurate fire adjustment.
