Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems has been awarded a $228 million contract to supply its Iron Fist active protection system for the U.S. Army’s Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.
The award supports a long-term modernization effort led by General Dynamics to upgrade the Bradley fleet over an eight-year period, with the program potentially encompassing more than 1,200 vehicles.
Under the agreement, Elbit will carry out Iron Fist-related work for an estimated three years.
The capabilities delivered through this contract build on an earlier award announced in May 2024, which designated the M2A4E1 Bradley as the initial recipient of the system. The newly announced deal represents the third order placed under the broader Bradley upgrade initiative.
In addition to the U.S. Army’s Bradleys, the Iron Fist system is also being integrated onto CV90 infantry fighting vehicles operated by several European NATO nations.
Iron Fist is a hard-kill active protection system designed to enhance armored vehicle survivability in both open terrain and dense urban environments. The system provides 360-degree protection by detecting incoming threats and launching a compact interceptor to defeat them at a safe distance from the vehicle.
Packaged within a low-profile, space-efficient turret, Iron Fist is effective against a wide range of threats, including unmanned aerial systems, loitering munitions, anti-tank guided missiles, rockets, and kinetic energy projectiles.
