As part of a joint defense initiative with France under OCCAR’s supervision, the Italian Navy has received the advanced Emilio Bianchi frigate.

Built at Fincantieri’s northern Italian shipyards in Riva Trigoso and Muggiano, the warship integrates next-gen systems from Leonardo, MBDA, and Elettronica.

The vessel spans 144.6 meters in length with a beam of 19.7 meters and displaces approximately 6,700 tons when fully loaded.

It features a hybrid propulsion system combining diesel-electric power and gas turbines, enabling a top speed above 27 knots. The ship can travel up to 6,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 15 knots.

Combat systems onboard include the Kronos Grand Naval radar, a full sonar suite, Aster surface-to-air missiles, a 127mm gun, torpedo launchers, and a flight deck for one NH90 helicopter.
