Albania has entered a strategic partnership with Türkiye’s KAYO to establish a new domestic weapons production facility, strengthening its defense industrial base and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers. The initiative aims to modernize Albania’s defense capabilities while fostering regional cooperation through technology transfer and local manufacturing. The partnership will involve building advanced production lines for small arms and light weapons, leveraging KAYO’s experience in precision manufacturing and defense technology. Albania’s Ministry of Defense stated that the collaboration marks a significant milestone in its efforts to develop a self-sustaining defense sector. This initiative will also contribute to job creation, technical skill development, and local economic growth through the participation of Albanian engineers and defense firms. By aligning with Türkiye’s growing defense export ecosystem, Albania positions itself as an emerging contributor to NATO’s defense readiness in the Balkans. The project also symbolizes deeper political and industrial ties between the two nations, following a series of bilateral agreements aimed at defense modernization. Over the coming years, the facility is expected to produce a range of small arms for both domestic use and potential export to regional partners, signaling Albania’s entry into the broader defense production network in Southeast Europe.
