Lithuania has signed a contract with KNDS Deutschland to acquire 12 Leguan bridge-layer systems, strengthening the country’s battlefield mobility and logistics support for tanks and other armored vehicles. The agreement, valued at 210 million euros ($251.4 million), covers not only the bridge layers but also spare parts, operator and technician training, simulators, and full technical documentation.

Each system will be delivered with two 14-meter bridges and one 26-meter bridge, all compliant with Military Load Class 80 (MLC 80) standards. This capacity enables the safe crossing of tracked vehicles weighing up to 73 tons and wheeled vehicles up to 84 tons. The Leguan platform is based on the Leopard 2 main battle tank chassis and is operated by a two-person crew.

Designed for rapid deployment, the system can bridge obstacles and gaps of up to 25 meters in less than six minutes, enabling fast movement of heavy military equipment across difficult terrain. The Leguan system is currently in service or on order in 22 partner nations, with the previous contract announced in December for the Danish Armed Forces.
