The US Department of Defense has awarded Raytheon a $1.02 billion contract to manufacture Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensors (LTAMDS) for the US Army. The award is a contract modification tied to a $2.1 billion base agreement signed in 2024.
That original framework was expanded with an additional $1.7 billion order announced in September 2025, bringing the cumulative value of the LTAMDS program to approximately $3.8 billion. Production under the latest order will be carried out at Raytheon’s Andover, Massachusetts facility, with completion scheduled for March 2030.
Raytheon will execute the work in coordination with the US Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, which is responsible for oversight and program management. The LTAMDS radar is intended to replace legacy Patriot air and missile defense radars currently being phased out by the US military and allied forces.
Designed to counter both existing and emerging airborne threats, the system can track targets traveling at speeds up to Mach 5 while providing full 360-degree coverage and simultaneous engagement of multiple threats. Earlier this year, Raytheon partnered with TTM Technologies to support ongoing LTAMDS development, with TTM set to receive up to $200 million over three years to supply critical electronic components.
