The Norwegian government has placed a new order for 24 K9 VIDAR self-propelled howitzers, marking its third agreement with South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace.

With this contract, Norway’s artillery fleet will expand to 52 howitzers by 2027, strengthening its long-term modernization drive.

Norway first purchased K9s in 2017 under a 1.8-billion-kroner ($181 million) deal, which launched its current artillery upgrade program. A follow-on order was placed in 2022, citing the system’s reliability and proven performance in Arctic conditions.
