The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a $295 million contract to Guam-based Core Tech-HDCC-Kajima LLC to construct a command center for the island’s air and missile defense system. Scheduled for completion by March 2029, the project will support the Enhanced Integrated Air and Missile Defense System being deployed across Guam.

The contract includes the construction of a command center, power generation facility, switchgear building, fuel storage, and an entry control point within Joint Region Marianas. Core Tech, a subsidiary of a larger conglomerate with a history of defense infrastructure work in Guam, will lead the effort.

Guam’s strategic position in the Western Pacific—home to over 170,000 U.S. citizens and critical military bases like Andersen Air Force Base and Naval Base Guam—makes it central to U.S. Indo-Pacific defense planning. The defense system is intended to counter long-range threats, especially from China, amid rising tensions over Taiwan.
