The United States has approved a $163.4-million contract awarding Textron Systems the delivery of 65 Commando Select armored vehicles to Ukraine, aimed at enhancing Kyiv’s battlefield mobility and troop protection.
The three-year, firm fixed-price contract was issued under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative through the Foreign Military Sales framework by the Army Contracting Command at Detroit Arsenal. It covers vehicle production, delivery, and one year of spare parts support.
Textron Systems’ Commando Select, derived from the company’s Mobile Strike Force Vehicle, is engineered for operations in harsh environments and offers improved mobility and crew protection compared to many traditional armored personnel carriers.
US military assistance to Ukraine and other partners has remained a cornerstone of American foreign and defense policy in recent years.
In late 2024, Washington announced nearly $6 billion in combined military and budgetary support for Ukraine, including the transfer of artillery ammunition, HIMARS rockets, anti-tank weapons, air-defense interceptors, and unmanned systems under multiple assistance authorities.
Further support followed in December 2025, when the US approved an additional $800-million security assistance package for Kyiv, with roughly half scheduled for delivery in 2026 and 2027 through the USAI.
In January 2025, the US government also unveiled a $500-million aid package that included additional air-defense missiles and equipment to support Ukraine’s F-16 fighter operations.
