Rheinmetall expects to finalize a multi-billion-euro deal with the German Armed Forces for Skyranger self-propelled air defense systems by the end of 2025. According to CEO Armin Papperger, the contract could be worth between 6 and 8 billion euros ($6.9–$9.2 billion) for a “significant number” of units. While no exact figures were shared, Berlin’s earlier planning documents suggested a possible need for 500–600 Skyranger 30 systems in different configurations, Defence Industry Europe reported. Papperger noted that procurement would begin under a framework agreement, followed by a series of phased contracts. Current discussions outline deliveries through 2029, with a second batch from 2029 to 2035. The purchase supports Germany’s goal of meeting NATO defense spending targets, aiming for around 3.5 percent of GDP by 2029, when alliance capability benchmarks are also set for review.
