Romania is on track to purchase the Israeli-made Iron Dome air and missile defense system, making it the first country in Europe to do so.
Romanian Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu announced the upcoming acquisition during a TVR interview, stating the agreement is slated for signing this autumn.

Developed by Israeli defense contractor Rafael, which is owned by the government in Tel Aviv, the Iron Dome is designed for short and very short-range threat interception.
It combines Elta’s advanced radar, Tamir interceptors, and mPrest’s command and control platform to engage a range of aerial threats.

The system can intercept incoming drones, aircraft, and missile warheads within a 70-kilometer range and up to an altitude of 10,000 meters.
