Saab has won a contract from BAE Systems Hägglunds to deliver its Universal Tank and Anti-Aircraft System (UTAAS) sight and fire-control solution for CV90 combat vehicles.
The agreement, valued at approximately 314 million Swedish krona (about $34 million), calls for deliveries to take place in 2029 and 2030.
UTAAS is already in service on CV90 platforms operated by Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, and the Netherlands, and has also been selected by Denmark, Estonia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia for their new or upgraded vehicle fleets.
The system provides high-precision engagement across a broad spectrum of ground targets and is capable of countering helicopters and other low-flying aerial threats. Its modular architecture supports multiple performance configurations and enables future upgrades.
UTAAS employs a common aperture for all optical channels, enhancing system stability and eliminating the need for realignment. An independent line of sight allows continuous target tracking while a laser rangefinder measures distance, with the fire-control computer automatically applying ballistic corrections.
The top-mounted sensor unit offers full freedom of movement in elevation and traverse, enabling effective tracking of fast-moving aerial targets. UTAAS can be integrated with various weapon systems, command-and-control networks, and smart-munition programming interfaces.
It supports air-target engagements at distances of up to 2,000 meters and provides gun stabilization for accurate firing while the vehicle is moving at speeds of up to 30 km/h, with effective firing ranges extending to 5,000 meters.
