Sweden has awarded Saab a 60-million kronor ($6.3 million) contract to design, assemble, and test a large uncrewed undersea vehicle (LUUV).

The platform, similar in size to a small submarine, will be fitted with seabed-mapping sensors and systems for detecting underwater threats. Saab will integrate its Autonomous Ocean Core technology, enabling both surface and subsurface autonomous navigation.

Initially unarmed, the LUUV will act as a decision-support tool for operators, with first sea trials scheduled for summer 2026.
