Swedish defense company Saab has received a third order from Lithuania for its Mobile Short Range Air Defense (MSHORAD) system, further strengthening the Baltic nation’s air defense capabilities amid ongoing regional tensions.

The contract—worth about 1.4 billion Swedish krona ($148 million)—includes deliveries scheduled from 2026 to 2030, adding a third MSHORAD battery to the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

As part of the agreement, Saab will mount the system on Oshkosh JLTV 4×4 vehicles, enhancing the mobility and responsiveness of Lithuania’s air defense units.

MSHORAD is a mobile, vehicle-mounted air defense solution designed to protect maneuvering forces. It integrates the RBS 70 NG short-range missile, the Giraffe 1X radar, a command-and-control suite, and secure datalink communications—enabling fast detection, tracking, and engagement of enemy aircraft, drones, and missiles.

Lithuania has been steadily expanding its partnership with Saab. In 2023, it ordered ammunition for the Carl-Gustaf M4, with deliveries beginning in 2024, followed by a January 2025 order for more rifles and spare parts.

This latest deal follows two previous MSHORAD orders placed in July 2024 and later that same year, both aimed at equipping Lithuania with mobile air-defense batteries built around the RBS 70 NG, Giraffe 1X radar, and C2 systems.
