The Spanish Army has selected Exosens to deliver 17,000 monocular night vision devices, in one of the nation’s largest defense optics modernization programs to date.

Manufacturing will take place through Night Vision Lasers Spain (NVLS), a subsidiary recently brought under the Exosens umbrella.

The program centers on a 50-degree wide field-of-view monocular, utilizing 16mm 4G image intensifier tubes. Compact and lightweight, the device can be mounted on helmets or firearms, offering troops enhanced nighttime visibility without compromising maneuverability.

The new design expands the visual field by more than 60% compared with legacy 40-degree systems while maintaining the same form factor and weight.

Equipped with Exosens’ latest 16mm 4G technology, the monoculars provide higher resolution, greater light sensitivity, and improved situational awareness under challenging conditions.

Set to run from 2025 through 2028, the project strengthens Madrid’s commitment to modernizing its ground forces’ optical capabilities. Spain’s previous acquisitions include AN/PVS-14 monoculars (2019) and 16mm 4G binoculars for the Army and Navy.

The initiative also reflects an ongoing NATO-wide shift, where sensor and night vision technologies are now recognized as key battlefield enablers, critical for maintaining an edge during night operations and multinational exercises across Eastern Europe.
