Sweden’s defense procurement agency has revised its contract with MBDA to procure additional Common Anti-air Modular Missiles (CAMM). The original 2023 deal included CAMM surface-to-air missiles and the Sea Ceptor naval air defense system for the Royal Swedish Navy’s five Visby-class corvettes.

Sea Ceptor integration will coincide with the corvettes’ mid-life upgrade program, beginning in late 2025. Saab, working alongside MBDA, will oversee the modernization, with the first upgraded vessel scheduled for delivery in late 2026.

CAMM forms a key part of the Sea Ceptor system, utilizing vertical launch technology that minimizes launch signatures and reduces the risk of enemy detection. With a range of 25 kilometers (15.53 miles) and an altitude ceiling of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), the supersonic interceptor can engage multiple threats simultaneously across 360 degrees.

Its active radio-frequency seeker supports dependable performance in all weather conditions, while eliminating the requirement for costly fire-control or illuminator radars. Weighing just 99 kilograms (218 pounds), CAMM fits platforms ranging from 50-meter patrol craft to large frigates and destroyers.
