The U.S. Marine Corps has placed an order for over 600 Rogue 1 loitering munition systems through a $42.5 million OPF-L contract awarded to Teledyne FLIR Defense, giving small tactical units an organic precision-strike capability and advancing the Corps’ transition toward dispersed, rapidly responsive fires.
Teledyne FLIR Defense confirmed the award of the $42.5 million delivery order under the Organic Precision Fires-Light (OPF-L) program, which includes more than 600 Rogue 1 systems and supporting ground equipment. The purchase equips Marine rifle squads and platoons with an independent beyond-line-of-sight strike tool, reflecting the growing battlefield significance of loitering munitions. By scaling OPF-L procurement, the Marine Corps is reinforcing its move toward decentralized, autonomous fires at the lowest tactical level, while solidifying Teledyne FLIR’s role as a critical provider of integrated sensing and strike technology to U.S. forces.
The order, issued by Marine Corps Systems Command as Delivery Order 3 under OPF-L, covers Rogue 1 systems, control stations and training packages, with fielding set to begin next summer. Designed as a man-portable system, OPF-L places a precision loitering strike asset directly in the hands of squads and platoons, reducing reliance on external artillery, aircraft or larger unmanned platforms. Units can launch within minutes, locate targets using onboard sensors, choose whether to strike, and recover the drone if needed – giving Marines full control from detection through engagement.
