The US State Department has approved a possible $200 million sale of additional Navy Multiband Terminals (NMT) to the United Kingdom, reinforcing the Royal Navy’s secure satellite communications infrastructure.
The acquisition will expand London’s access to the Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) network, with RTX Corporation serving as the principal contractor. The UK’s latest request includes six additional AEHF NMT units, supplementing a previous approval for two systems valued at slightly more than $41 million.
This brings the total package to eight hardened, high-data-rate terminals designed to enhance strategic connectivity across Royal Navy assets. The US approval also encompasses encryption equipment, submarine high-data-rate masts, testing and integration support, spare parts, training, documentation, and both government and contractor services to assist with installation and long-term sustainment.
The new terminals are expected to be installed on the Dreadnought-class ballistic missile submarines, providing improved connectivity with ships, shore facilities, and underwater platforms in uncontested operational environments.
The sale reflects the ongoing momentum in US-UK defense cooperation, which has accelerated through major programs across 2024 and 2025. Notable examples include the UK’s procurement of the E-7 Wedgetail airborne early warning aircraft and continued logistics and software support for its F-35B fleet.
Missile capability programs remain a consistent feature, including additional AIM-120 AMRAAM deliveries and joint NATO air-defense integration upgrades. Support contracts for the P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft also continue, covering system sustainment, training, and sensor improvements.
