The United States has cleared a possible $780 million arms sale to Poland, covering the FGM-148F Javelin anti-tank missile system.

Poland’s request includes 2,506 missiles and 253 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units, in addition to training packages, support equipment, spare parts, and technical assistance. The acquisition would boost Poland’s defensive readiness and support its NATO commitments.

The Javelin is a shoulder-fired, guided missile capable of destroying modern armored vehicles. Using infrared seeker technology, it enables operators to “fire and forget,” eliminating the need for constant control. It can strike targets from 65 meters to 4 kilometers, with its top-attack profile designed to penetrate a tank’s most vulnerable armor.

The updated Lightweight Command Launch Unit improves portability with a 30% reduction in size and 25% weight savings over the older version, while delivering twice the detection and recognition performance. Redesigned grips and lighter build make it more soldier-friendly during extended operations.
