The US Army has placed an order for 86 M917A3 heavy dump trucks from Mack Defense to enhance its tactical logistics and engineering operations.
This latest procurement expands the Army’s modernized fleet of construction and transport vehicles used for base development, mobility support, and battlefield recovery.
Based on the Mack Granite commercial platform, the M917A3 has been modified to military specifications, featuring a reinforced chassis, all-wheel drive, upgraded suspension, and armored cab for increased protection in combat environments.
Each vehicle can haul up to 27 tons of material, providing robust capability for large-scale transport and construction in demanding terrain.
Part of the ongoing M917A3 Heavy Dump Truck program, the new trucks will replace legacy M917 models that have served for decades.
Mack Defense will manufacture the vehicles through its US-based production facilities, using an established domestic supply chain to ensure reliable delivery and sustainment.
Advancing Army Logistics Modernization
The acquisition supports the Army’s broader tactical vehicle modernization strategy, aimed at improving mobility, reducing lifecycle costs, and standardizing logistics across units.
Recent investments have focused on new heavy dump truck variants, expanded medium tactical vehicle programs, and advanced trucks with digital control systems, greater payload capacity, and enhanced off-road performance.
Parallel modernization initiatives include the US Marine Corps’ Logistics Vehicle System Replacement and the development of hybrid-electric prototypes under the Common Tactical Truck program.
