Washington has approved a possible $3.42-billion foreign military sale to Peru for F-16 Fighting Falcon jets and related systems.

The proposed purchase covers 10 F-16C Block 70 and two F-16D Block 70 fighters, enhancing Peru’s airspace defense, border security, and precision strike capabilities in support of counter-narcotics and counterterrorism operations. The agreement is also expected to deepen military ties between Lima and Washington, according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

Peru’s request includes a wide range of weapons: 12 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs, 12 AIM-9X Block II Sidewinders, 48 LAU-129 launchers, M61A1 cannons, and multiple training and spare units.

Also included are 14 F110-GE-129 engines, AESA radars, Modular Mission Computers, embedded GPS/INS navigation units, tactical radios, electronic warfare suites, infrared search and track systems, targeting pods, helmet-mounted displays, and countermeasure equipment.

Support items such as radios, cryptographic tools, night vision devices, mission planning kits, and logistics assistance form part of the broader package. The primary contractors for the deal will be Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace, and RTX.
