Australia to Receive Javelin LWCLU Systems in $97.3M US Deal

The US has approved a potential $97.3 million arms sale to Australia, covering 161 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units, training aids, spare parts, and technical support.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency noted that the acquisition will enhance Australia’s ability to field advanced anti-tank weapons and deter regional adversaries. The notification has been submitted to Congress for clearance.

The new LWCLU variant is significantly smaller, lighter, and more efficient than its predecessor, offering twice the detection and recognition capability. Designed with ergonomic grips, it improves handling and ease of transport.

Capable of firing all Javelin munitions, the system can strike targets up to 4 kilometers away, representing a substantial upgrade over previous versions. Its advanced optics ensure all-weather, day-and-night operational effectiveness, even against obscured targets on the battlefield.
