Lockheed Martin has delivered its 250th MK 48 Guidance and Control Section, reinforcing the US Navy’s undersea strike capabilities. Designed to operate in complex, high-pressure environments, the MK 48 torpedo incorporates digital control systems, advanced sonar, and adaptive targeting to track and engage enemy submarines and surface vessels.
Measuring 21 inches in diameter and weighing nearly 3,744 pounds, this heavyweight torpedo is equipped with a 650-pound warhead and liquid-fuel propulsion. Its course can be adjusted in real-time via submarine fire control input, making it a formidable and precise weapon in modern naval warfare.
