The US State Department has approved a potential foreign military sale to Lebanon involving M1085A2 and M1078A2 medium tactical vehicles (MTVs), with an estimated value of $90.5 million.
The package includes 5-ton M1085A2 MTVs and 2.5-ton M1078A2 MTVs, both without winches, along with spare parts, technical manuals, training programs, and logistics support. Oshkosh Defense is designated as the primary contractor.
MTVs are durable, highly mobile transport trucks built for moving troops and equipment across challenging terrain. The M1085A2 and M1078A2 models offer improved payload capacity, robust off-road performance, and flexibility for roles such as logistics support and tactical movements.
Their mobility and modular layout make MTVs an essential asset in modern military transport operations.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the acquisition will boost the Lebanese Armed Forces’ (LAF) mobility, strengthening their ability to respond swiftly to border threats, conduct counter-terror missions, and participate in joint exercises with US forces.
The agency also stated that Lebanon can absorb the vehicles without difficulty and the sale will not shift the regional military balance or affect US defense readiness.
The United States has consistently supplied Lebanon with military assistance to reinforce its operational effectiveness and border protection capabilities.
Through the foreign military sales program, the US has enabled more than $1.9 billion in active government-to-government sales and invested over $3 billion since 2006 to build the LAF into a stabilizing force amid regional security challenges.
The State Department has additionally provided nearly $23 million for the International Military Education and Training program since 2014, with over 6,000 LAF personnel trained in the US since 1970.
