Canadian aerospace company Volatus Aerospace has acquired a collection of advanced remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) technologies from UK-based Caliburn Holdings in a deal valued at 2 million Canadian dollars ($1.4 million).
The purchase includes aircraft designs, flight-test data, engineering documentation, and supporting assets that will aid in developing a new generation of long-endurance, fixed-wing uncrewed aircraft systems.
Volatus stated that the acquisition strengthens Canada’s domestic aerospace and defense manufacturing base, while expanding capabilities for public safety and critical infrastructure monitoring.
The package features three scalable unmanned aerial system (UAS) platforms with maximum takeoff weights between 100 and 265 kilograms (220–584 pounds).
Each can carry payloads from 15 to 50 kilograms (33–110 pounds) and remain airborne from 12 hours to up to seven days, depending on mission requirements.
These systems are intended for border surveillance, Arctic and maritime patrols, persistent reconnaissance, and infrastructure inspection, with modular configurations allowing single or coordinated squadron operations for broader defense missions.
