The French Navy’s decision to move the VSR700 into serial production marks a key milestone in integrating uncrewed rotary-wing systems into frontline naval operations. Under the new contract, Airbus Helicopters and Naval Group will deliver six ISR-configured VSR700 systems, enabling surface vessels to conduct persistent surveillance beyond the visual horizon. Naval Group will oversee integration with ship combat systems using the Steeris Mission System, ensuring seamless command-and-control. Developed from the Cabri G2 platform under the SDAM program, the VSR700 has been tested extensively in both maritime and land environments. The system combines long endurance, autonomous VTOL capability, and a comprehensive sensor suite to provide commanders with enhanced situational awareness. In addition to military ISR, the platform’s dual-use design allows for disaster response and civil protection missions. Airbus has also validated the system’s ability to operate alongside crewed helicopters, supporting manned-uncrewed teaming concepts aimed at expanding coverage while reducing risk to personnel.
