The US Navy has awarded Absher Construction Company a $22.8 million contract to build an Armored Fighting Vehicle (AFV) support facility at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor in Washington State. The project covers five maintenance bay divisions, a paint booth, and a blast booth, with an additional $1 million earmarked later for furniture, equipment, and security upgrades.
Construction will begin with site preparation, including clearing forested areas, structural fill, and stormwater management, before moving to the installation of a custom pre-engineered metal structure. Once completed, the facility will provide full-service AFV maintenance, featuring specialized bays, administrative offices, and a paved receiving yard.
The base hosts the Marine Corps Security Force Battalion Bangor, which protects the Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific. The unit employs a variety of armored vehicles—including Humvees, MRAPs, and light armored vehicles—to secure the Navy’s ballistic missile submarine assets. The project is scheduled for completion in October 2027, under the oversight of the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command in Washington, DC.
