Textron and Leonardo are jointly proposing the M-346N jet trainer—based on Leonardo’s M-346 platform—for the U.S. Navy’s upcoming Undergraduate Jet Training System competition to replace the T-45 Goshawk.

Designed to prepare naval aviators for the rigors of advanced, carrier-capable fighter operations, the M-346N builds on a globally trusted airframe used for next-gen fighter pilot instruction. It includes a two-seat tandem configuration, advanced digital flight controls with quadruple redundancy, a contemporary cockpit, automated safety systems, and a recovery function to aid in-flight emergencies.

One of its standout capabilities is the integrated Live-Virtual-Constructive environment, which blends live flight with simulated and synthetic threats to create realistic and immersive training scenarios.

Powered by dual Honeywell F124 engines, the aircraft has a top speed of 590 knots (679 mph), a range of 1,300 nautical miles (1,496 miles), and a ceiling of nearly 45,000 feet. It measures 36 feet in length with a 33-foot wingspan.
