Patria and the Finnish city of Hämeenlinna are moving toward signing a cooperation agreement intended to reinforce the region’s defense industrial ecosystem.
The planned letter of intent focuses on industrial infrastructure development, workforce training, and opportunities for future joint initiatives. Proposed actions include establishing a demonstration area for local defense firms and creating new industrial facilities to support sector growth.
A joint steering committee made up of representatives from both sides would supervise implementation of the agreement, which is expected to remain valid indefinitely.
Hämeenlinna has been a longstanding base for Patria operations and functions as one of the company’s key armored vehicle production hubs, supported by an extensive industrial partner network.
The initiative comes as Patria continues expanding defense cooperation efforts across Europe. Earlier this month, the Finnish defense manufacturer reached agreements with Czech state-owned defense organizations, including the Military Technical Institute, Military Research Institute, and VOP CZ, as the Czech Republic advances plans for a new 8×8 armored vehicle fleet.
In April, Patria also signed partnership deals with Ukrainian venture capital company Double Tap Investments and Ukraine’s IRON Cluster to support defense technology development and testing. Signed during the Drone Autonomy conference in Lviv, the framework includes information exchange, collaborative testing, and future project opportunities.
Earlier this year, the European Commission approved a 79-million-euro ($92.8 million) grant for the third phase of the FAMOUS armored vehicle development program led by Patria. The multinational initiative carries a total budget of 115 million euros ($124 million), including contributions from participating nations.
