South Korea and Malaysia have inked a bilateral defense cooperation deal designed to strengthen military partnerships and expand weapons development efforts.
The framework agreement outlines collaboration across Malaysia’s modernization programs — spanning fighter jets, naval vessels, and missile systems — through government-to-government channels.
It also opens opportunities for R&D cooperation, shared production lines, and joint international defense marketing.
DAPA stated that the pact stems from “long-standing trust” and marks only the second such defense collaboration Malaysia has ever concluded.
Seoul pledged to act as a genuine partner in enhancing Malaysia’s defense posture and promoting regional peace.
Defense relations between the countries date to 1993 with South Korea’s K200 deliveries, followed by the $920-million FA-50 fighter deal in 2023.
