Renk Group is planning to establish new service and production facilities in Poland as part of a broader expansion strategy across NATO’s eastern flank. The company said the move is driven by Warsaw’s growing defense expenditures and the strengthened military presence of the NATO in the region.

Initially, the Polish sites will focus on servicing tank transmissions, engines, and chassis systems before gradually expanding into full-scale local production. According to reports by Der Spiegel, the facilities are expected to support customers in Ukraine, Poland, and the Baltic states.

Renk intends to invest up to €500 million (about $580.8 million) over the next four to five years to expand manufacturing capacity and strengthen research and development efforts. Before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the company produced around 200 to 300 gearboxes annually, but production is projected to increase to 800 units per year by the end of 2026. The company also aims to triple its revenue by the end of the decade compared with its 2024 performance.

Headquartered in Augsburg, the firm has restructured operations at its main plant by introducing modular manufacturing processes inspired by the automotive industry, improving efficiency and enabling a threefold increase in deliveries. Renk currently supplies propulsion and transmission systems to the German Navy as well as leading Western armored vehicle manufacturers such as KNDS, Rheinmetall, and Leonardo.

Despite steady industrial support, company leadership has emphasized that Europe’s defense sector must accelerate the delivery of military equipment to improve operational readiness. Executives also stressed that tanks remain a vital battlefield capability even as drone warfare continues to evolve.
