Rauma Shipyard has launched the second Pohjanmaa-class multi-role corvette for the Finnish Navy, marking another milestone as production of the four-ship class advances at full pace. The vessel was launched less than a year after construction began, following the launch of the lead corvette in May 2025, which has since moved into the outfitting phase.
Progress across the program continues steadily, with the third corvette recently reaching its keel-laying stage while construction of the fourth ship commenced in January 2026. Developed under Finland’s Squadron 2020 modernization initiative, the Pohjanmaa-class will replace the aging Rauma- and Hämeenmaa-class vessels and strengthen the country’s ability to protect vital sea lanes and underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. The 117-meter warships can carry more than 70 personnel and a maritime helicopter, operate at speeds of up to 26 knots, and remain deployed for up to 14 days. Armed with Gabriel anti-ship missiles, Torped 47 lightweight torpedoes, ESSM air-defense missiles, naval guns, remote weapon stations, decoys, and electronic warfare systems, the corvettes are scheduled to enter service between 2027 and 2029.
