Strengthening European defense cooperation, the UK and Norway have officially entered the Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) framework, a multinational armored mobility program led by Finland and Patria. The two nations join a growing roster that includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany, and Denmark. The effort revolves around a standardized 6×6 armored vehicle that offers scalability, cost efficiency, and operational versatility. Derived from Patria’s established 8×8 APC, the CAVS vehicle supports long-distance deployment, high-speed mobility, and varied mission loads. With a diesel engine producing 394 horsepower, it can travel 700 km at speeds up to 100 km/h. Over 250 of nearly 1,000 ordered vehicles have already been delivered to participating nations. For the UK and Norway, CAVS membership means access to a proven platform, pooled logistics, and deeper defense integration with NATO allies—critical in today’s shifting security landscape.
