Asio Technologies has completed development of an upgraded version of its Taurus battle management system (BMS) for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Known within the IDF as Noam, Taurus is a tactical intelligence platform that provides frontline units with real-time 3D terrain visualization and faster access to battlefield data, allowing commanders to make rapid, informed decisions for both offensive and defensive operations.

Developed jointly with Israel’s Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) and the IDF Intelligence Directorate, the new system will soon be deployed across hundreds of battalion-level intelligence units. It enables commanders to analyze terrain, gather intelligence from drones and sensors, and create mission plans independently of centralized command centers — significantly improving autonomy and responsiveness in dynamic combat situations.

The platform also integrates with Orion mission-management systems, synchronizing operational updates across squad-, battalion-, and brigade-level units to maintain a shared, real-time battlespace picture.

Israel’s Expanding Digital Battlefield Network
Taurus reflects the IDF’s increasing focus on network-centric warfare, linking all combat units through unified intelligence, mapping, and communications systems. In 2024, the Ministry of Defense awarded Elbit Systems a $130-million contract to provide advanced tactical communication networks, bolstering data connectivity and command efficiency across the ground forces.

Simultaneously, the IDF’s C4I and Cyber Defense Directorate has deployed secure communication nodes and mobile command centers to ensure operational continuity even in GPS- or network-denied environments. Additionally, the army is introducing augmented reality (AR) tools for infantry and armored units, overlaying digital maps and sensor data onto helmet displays to enhance situational awareness in urban combat settings.
