Microchip Technology has introduced a new range of military-qualified surge protection components designed to protect sensitive defense and aerospace electronics from voltage spikes, lightning strikes, and electromagnetic interference. The JANPTX family of transient voltage suppressor devices absorbs sudden overvoltage events before they can damage mission-critical systems such as avionics, sensors, and communications equipment. Unlike conventional military-grade TVS solutions that rely on heavier hermetic metal or ceramic packages, the new devices use plastic packaging while still meeting MIL-PRF-19500 qualification standards. This approach reduces both weight and cost without compromising reliability in demanding operational environments. The surface-mount, unidirectional devices operate across working voltages from 5 to 175 volts, can suppress transients of up to 1.5 kW, and respond in under 100 picoseconds. Qualified to MIL-PRF-19500/716 and compliant with IEC standards for ESD, fast transients, and surge immunity, the components are also available in hermetic versions for applications requiring traditional packaging. Weighing about 0.25 grams, they target size-, weight-, and power-constrained military platforms and are available now in production quantities with SPICE models to support virtual circuit simulation.
