Element US Space & Defense and Leonardo DRS have entered into a partnership to enhance electromagnetic testing capabilities for the US Navy.

The initiative targets system validation needs tied to the Navy’s medium-voltage technology development programs. Central to the partnership is the construction of a semi-anechoic EMI chamber at Leonardo’s Menomonee Falls site in Wisconsin.

This facility is engineered to replicate operational electromagnetic conditions by isolating external noise and controlling internal signal behavior. RF-absorbing materials within the chamber prevent signal reflections, ensuring high-precision measurements.

The chamber will be integrated into Leonardo’s high-power testing lab, leveraging its naval systems expertise alongside Element’s certification and testing support. The companies expect the capability to streamline development, improve efficiency, and meet evolving defense testing demands, with operational readiness planned for 2026.
