Reliance Industries Limited and Rolls-Royce have announced their strategic intent to collaborate on the design, development, manufacturing, and delivery of an indigenous combat engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program.
As part of the proposed partnership, the companies will explore establishing a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India. The facility is envisioned as a center of excellence for advanced power and propulsion technologies.
The collaboration would combine Rolls-Royce’s expertise in advanced engine technology with Reliance Industries’ manufacturing capabilities, technological resources, scale, and execution strength. The companies aim to jointly develop the AMCA engine in India and create a sovereign aerospace propulsion ecosystem.
Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, said the partnership is intended to strengthen India’s strategic autonomy in critical technologies. He highlighted the goal of combining Rolls-Royce’s propulsion expertise with Reliance’s industrial capabilities to establish a self-reliant and globally competitive aero-engine ecosystem.
Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic said the partnership would bring together the company’s long-standing engineering and engine expertise with Reliance’s position in the Indian industrial sector. He described the initiative as an important step toward developing a stronger and more self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in India.
The proposed Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex could provide end-to-end capabilities covering engine design, development, manufacturing, testing, production, and lifecycle support. The partnership could also create opportunities in defense, civil aerospace, and emerging power and propulsion technologies.
The initiative supports India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and could contribute to the country’s efforts to develop advanced indigenous propulsion capabilities.
