EDGE Group has partnered with the Brazilian Army to establish a teaming framework for evaluating next-generation small arms intended for special forces. The trials will be conducted in demanding and realistic operational environments, incorporating high-stress, scenario-driven simulations to assess performance.
The evaluation will include the 5.56×45 mm CAR 816 assault rifle and the 12.7×99 mm CSR50 anti-materiel sniper rifle, both developed by EDGE subsidiary Caracal and built to meet NATO standards. According to EDGE, the collaboration is aimed at identifying optimal solutions for integrating these weapons into Brazilian Army operations while enhancing the proficiency of specialized troops using assault and precision rifles.
The initiative also supports broader knowledge exchange and joint development, leveraging combined expertise in engineering, operations, and logistics. EDGE noted that the trials are expected to improve lethality and overall mission effectiveness for Brazilian forces.
The announcement follows a separate agreement between EDGE and Indra to explore radar production in Brazil, in collaboration with São Paulo-based SIATT. This effort is expected to expand Brazil’s industrial capacity, strengthen its workforce, and enhance sovereign defense capabilities.
