France Unveils Modernized PROTEUS 20mm System for Drone Defense
The French Army has rolled out the PROTEUS Standard 1, a new 20mm automatic gun mount developed to address the growing threat of drones and guided munitions.
Built as a revamp of the AA53 cannon, the weapon traces its origins to World War II, where it was used against light armored targets and provided short-range air protection.
The modernized cannon fires 20×139mm rounds at up to 720 rounds per minute, ensuring its continued relevance on today’s battlefield alongside newer-generation armaments.
