Austal Australia and Greenroom Robotics have launched an innovative AI-based automation platform that can transform a standard vessel into a fully autonomous ship in just five days.
This development builds on their 2024 partnership, combining Austal’s defense shipbuilding know-how with Greenroom’s advanced AI systems to drive next-generation autonomy for naval and commercial maritime operations.
At the core of the system are Greenroom’s GAMA and Lookout+ applications, which collect and analyze input from onboard sensors and cameras to guide ships safely and independently.
The tools seamlessly integrate with Austal’s MARINELINK Prime digital control network, enabling self-steering and real-time system management.
In trials conducted by the Royal Australian Navy, the combined platform successfully executed 148 autonomous navigation and avoidance maneuvers during a 705-nautical-mile (1,306-kilometer/811-mile) voyage, highlighting its readiness for large-scale adoption across modern fleets.
