General Atomics AeroTec Systems is elevating its aviation portfolio with the introduction of the Do228 NXT, a new aircraft designed for fast-evolving maritime and border security operations. Built for demanding environments, the platform features short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability, enabling operations from remote, austere, and minimally prepared airstrips.
The aircraft is equipped with an autopilot, advanced navigation systems, dual attitude and air data sensors, and comprehensive safety features, including terrain awareness and collision avoidance systems, significantly reducing pilot workload during complex missions. Measuring 16.56 meters in length, with a 16.97-meter wingspan and a height of 4.86 meters, the Do228 NXT offers ample space for mission payloads and modular equipment.
Powered by two Honeywell TPE331-10 turboprop engines, the aircraft can reach altitudes of up to 7,620 meters (25,000 feet) and cruise at 240 knots, making it well suited for long-range and high-tempo operations. Designed to adapt to increasingly dynamic maritime and border security demands, the Do228 NXT provides flexible mission capabilities, including coastal surveillance, naval reconnaissance, protection of underwater infrastructure, and environmental monitoring in regions such as the North Sea and Baltic Sea.
The aircraft also features an in-flight roller door for the safe deployment of rescue equipment during over-water missions. The Do228 NXT is scheduled to make its public debut at Navy Tech 2026, a defense exhibition in Sweden.
