The United States is accelerating research into next-generation missile defense systems capable of operating in orbit. Through its partnership with Apex, Northrop Grumman is exploring interceptor concepts that could form part of the ambitious Golden Dome architecture. The envisioned network would combine advanced satellites, artificial intelligence, and interceptor technologies to provide continuous protection against evolving missile threats. Although operational space-based interception remains in the experimental stage, the program highlights growing interest in leveraging space as a critical domain for national defense. Large satellite constellations could eventually play a central role in future homeland security strategies.
