Germany and the Netherlands have signed a €4.5 billion contract through OCCAR for 222 new SCHAKAL infantry fighting vehicles, expanding their joint Boxer fleets and strengthening NATO’s protected mobility. The deal marks a major milestone in European land warfare modernization, underscoring closer German-Dutch industrial collaboration and deeper European defense integration.
The order, signed in Bonn, boosts the total value of OCCAR-managed Boxer programs to over €10 billion and introduces new capabilities, including enhanced medical resilience and advanced infantry fighting options. In total, 270 vehicles will be delivered—featuring new Driver Training and Ambulance variants for Germany with upgraded C4I and visual systems. Central to the order is SCHAKAL, a co-developed IFV pairing the PUMA RCT30 turret, armed with a 30 mm cannon and modern optics, with the Boxer 8×8 chassis. The contract includes in-service support and standardizes the newest Boxer drive module across participating nations to enhance interoperability and lifecycle efficiency.
