RTX is investing $26.5 million to expand Collins Aerospace’s facility in Largo, Florida, to boost production capacity for aviation radar and defense communications systems.
The expansion is expected to generate more than 100 new jobs across engineering and manufacturing operations while increasing output capabilities to meet rising demand for airspace surveillance and military coordination technologies.
RTX stated that the new production area is projected to become fully operational by late 2026.
The Largo facility will support programs under the Federal Aviation Administration’s Radar System Replacement Program, including production of the Condor Mk3 cooperative surveillance radar and the ASR-XM non-cooperative radar.
The site already serves as a key hub for Collins Aerospace’s radar systems, secure communications technologies, satellite components, and testing services for both military and commercial customers.
Expanding Defense Production Capacity
RTX has continued expanding its manufacturing footprint as global demand grows for missiles, sensors, and air defense systems.
In April, RTX subsidiary Pratt & Whitney announced a $100-million investment to increase engine production capabilities in Poland, supporting programs such as the geared turbofan engine, the F135 engine for the F-35 Lightning II, and the F100 engines used on the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon.
The investment followed the March expansion of the company’s Redstone Missile Integration Facility in Alabama, which increased missile integration and delivery capacity by more than 50 percent.
Earlier in February, Pratt & Whitney also revealed a $200-million investment in its Georgia manufacturing facility to install a seventh isothermal forging press for compressor and turbine disk production.
