Elbit Systems has won a $350 million contract to modernize a fleet of main battle tanks for an undisclosed international customer, reinforcing the growing global focus on extending the combat relevance of existing armored platforms through advanced digital and battlefield technologies.

Under the four-year program, the tanks will receive a comprehensive upgrade package aimed at enhancing firepower, survivability, and operational effectiveness. The modernization effort includes the installation of advanced fire-control systems, electric turret and gun drive mechanisms, and upgraded communications and situational-awareness capabilities to improve battlefield coordination and target engagement.

A centerpiece of the upgrade is a mid-life enhancement suite featuring next-generation electro-optical sights equipped with artificial intelligence-enabled target detection and tracking functions. These systems are designed to improve target acquisition speed and support effective operations in both daytime and nighttime combat environments.

The contract also covers secure voice communication systems, spare parts provision, and long-term maintenance services to ensure sustained operational readiness throughout the fleet’s remaining service life.

Elbit Systems President and CEO Bezhalel Machlis stated that the company is drawing on expertise across its business divisions to deliver an integrated solution combining cutting-edge fire-control, electro-optical, communications, and other advanced subsystems.

The award follows a series of major armored vehicle modernization contracts secured by Elbit in recent years. In January, the company received a $228 million contract from the US Army to provide Iron Fist active protection systems for Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, while BAE Systems selected the same system for CV90 vehicles operated by European NATO members. Earlier, in November 2025, Elbit was awarded a $210 million contract to upgrade Israel’s Merkava main battle tanks with new electronics and advanced onboard technologies.
