Rheinmetall has chosen Theon Sensors to provide a stabilized electro-optical solution for its CT25 turret fire control system used in armored platforms. The collaboration incorporates Theon’s PHYLAX sensor suite into Rheinmetall Electronics’ SEOSS 210 P sight, tailored for 25mm lightweight turrets such as those on the Luchs 2 reconnaissance vehicle. The contract spans development, qualification, and serial production, with an initial value exceeding €40 million ($47 million) for several hundred units and scope for expansion across additional platforms.
The PHYLAX system integrates a daylight camera, thermal imaging capability, and a laser rangefinder into a stabilized package, enhancing target acquisition and battlefield awareness in armored operations.
As part of its broader industrial strategy, Rheinmetall continues to deepen partnerships across Europe while ramping up production and modernizing vehicle systems in line with NATO standards. In January, the company partnered with Sweden’s SSAB to manufacture decarbonized steel for defense use, becoming the first defense firm to incorporate fossil-free steel into its production chain.
In July 2024, Rheinmetall entered a joint venture with Leonardo to develop next-generation tanks and infantry fighting vehicles for Italy, reinforcing Europe’s land systems ecosystem. During the same period, it also expanded collaboration with Ukraine’s defense sector to bolster ammunition output and vehicle maintenance capabilities amid the ongoing conflict.
